Undie Sunday

12/19/2015

In the past, individuals from Trinity have been so generous with their giving and now we have had two requests for individuals less fortunate. Don Richie, Arch Deacon of the Cathedral has put in a request for Hoodies, sizes L, XL, XXL, as well as twin size blankets. Now that the weather is turning cooler these items are crucial for keeping our local homeless warm and safe.
Also Fr. Bryan Bywater is again asking for men’s undies for his outreach, the Church Army. Tee Shirts, boxers, crew socks, and sports bras would also be appreciated. Again various sizes….Medium, Large and X Large. A bin will be set up in the Narthex for you to leave these items.  November 22nd will be our official “Undie/Hoodie Sunday where we will pray for all who will receive these items, that they would receive the love of Christ as they receive these warm items. Thank you to all. And remember the scripture verse….. “When did I clothe you Lord ?"…..'when you provided Undies and Hoodies for my sons and daughters in Hartford'.

WEDNESDAY EVENING
December 16, 2015 at 7:00 PM

The Venerable Thomas J. Furrer will be preaching and Rev. Patrick Bush will lead us in celebrating the Eucharist. Classical guitar music will be performed by Laura Mazza-Dixon and her students as well as beautiful vocal duets by Carolyn Clement and Tara Smith. The Service of Hope and Healing is a quiet service designed to provide healing for the pain of grief and loss incurred at any point throughout the year, and to help renew hope during the holidays and days to follow. Prayers for healing, hope, coping, love, endurance, grace, and gratitude will be offered during the service. Please come and bring a friend and join us for a time of quiet, healing peace. A special 'thank you' to Sarah Thayer and the Healing Commission for organizing this service every year.

Nine Lessons and Carols

Trinity has a long history of offering top-notch music events to the community. Overseen by Trinity’s Director of Music, along with Trinity’s Music Commission, the final event in our Music Series is our Festival of Lessons and Carols.

The 39th Annual Candlelight Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols on Sun, Dec 6 at 4:30pm (Childcare 3-6pm)

Trinity Church’s Candlelight Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols will usher in the joyous and reverent season of Christmas with the retelling of Christ’s birth. This is a beloved tradition patterned after the service from King’s College, Cambridge, which dates back to 1918.  The backbone of the service, the lessons and the prayers, has remained virtually unchanged.
Wherever the service is heard and however it is adapted, whether the music is provided by choir or congregation, the pattern and strength of the service derives from the lessons and not the music.  The main theme is the development of the loving purposes of God seen through the windows and words of God’s Word.
Our focus this year is to simplify the music and engage the listeners!  Whether you are singing from the choir or from the pews, our intentions as we sing will be heartfelt and aim to move you to a place of reflection, hope, and gratitude. We hope you realize the true meaning of Advent, think more intently about the Words read from the Bible, and rejoice in the birth of Jesus.

The Festival Choir and Choristers will be accompanied on the organ and piano by Erik Eickhoff, Director of Music at Westminster Presbyterian Church in West Hartford and Booking Director for Phillip Truckenbrod Concert Artists in Hartford.  Mr. Eickhoff has served Lutheran, United Methodist, Episcopal, and Presbyterian churches in Minnesota, New York City, and Connecticut.  Most recently he served as Assistant Organist at Christ Church Cathedral in Hartford.  In August 2009 the Cathedral Choir, under Canon Kevin Jones, traveled to Ely and St. Paul’s Cathedrals, where Erik served as service organist.  He studied organ with Charles Luedtke, John Ferguson, and Thomas Murray.
Dan Moskey, and other members of the Contemporary Worship Team will also accompany the Festival Choir on the keyboard and other instruments.
Please join us for a Cookie and Punch Reception in the Parish Hall after the service.
