Confirmation Preparation Program
“I am calling up memories of your sincere and unqualified faith, that first lived permanently in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am fully persuaded, dwells in you also. That is why I would remind you to stir up [rekindle the embers of, fan the flame of, and keep burning] the gift of God, that is in you my means of the laying on of my hands.” (2 Timothy 1:5-6)
What is Confirmation? |
“In the course of their Christian development, those baptized at an early age are expected, when they are ready and have been duly prepared, to make a mature public affirmation of the faith and commitment to the responsibilities of their Baptism and to receive the laying on of hands by the bishop.” (BCP, 412)
Confirmation, like every other sacrament of the Church, is a combination of human receptivity and God’s direct intervention in our lives. The gift of salvation is given by God in Baptism, but in order for it to be effective, we humans need to receive it with a living faith.
“I stand at the door and knock…”(Revelation). The gift of the Holy Spirit through the laying on of the apostles’ hands (bishop’s hands) bestows power for us to live a life in grace. However, we need to receive it in faith. Confirmation is a time to receive and rekindle the gift of God given to us at our Baptism; a time to say, “yes” to the promises made on our behalf by others when we were baptized as small children; and a time to receive the power of the Holy Spirit for the gifts of ministry. |
Our Confirmation Program |
Confirmation will be an intensive seven week program in the winter and spring of 2024, which will help our students
1) think theologically, 2) develop spiritually and 3) prepare them to take on and own an active role in the Christian community. |
