Sunday School
Sunday School is offered every Sunday during the school year for children and youth from preschool through grade 12. Our team of volunteer teachers are dynamic and caring and offer the best in Christian education to their young students. Children are always welcome to bring a friend with them, and the students develop strong bonds with each other as they grow in their faith.
Sunday School for children of all ages begins at 10:15am. Parents are asked to bring their children directly to their classrooms before attending the worship service or the Adult Education program. Please try to be on time; the teachers have a limited time to present the lesson and we don’t want your child to miss out on anything! On weeks when the children ages preschool – grade 5 attend Children’s Chapel, the classes will come into the sanctuary as a group to receive Communion or a blessing and then return to chapel. When there is no Children’s Chapel, the children will join you in church after the Peace.
The lessons are meant to stay with your children throughout the week, and throughout their lives! Students will bring home materials from Sunday School that can be a good launching pad for meaningful conversations with even the youngest children.
Sunday School Curriculum
We are using David C. Cook’s Anglican Bible-in-Life series. This curriculum, which is designed to reach students with different learning styles, employs a four step lesson plan, which is designed to mirror the compelling approach that Jesus often used:
- Jesus started where His students were.
- Jesus shared life-changing truth.
- Jesus explained how His truth applied.
- Jesus called for action.
The Four-Step Learning Plan used in our Sunday School follows a similar pattern:
- Step 1: Motivate Connects your students’ life experiences (work, home, school, etc.) to the Lesson Focus and gets them interested in the topic.
- Step 2: Learn the Facts Presents the Bible story and gets students into Scripture.
- Step 3: Practice Provides a variety of opportunities for students to practice the information they’ve just acquired.
- Step 4: Apply Encourages students to apply what they’ve learned to their everyday experiences.
